Benue State Government don ban compulsory extra lessons and the use of customised and textbooks wen students no dey fit transfer to others for schools as pupils and students return for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The government still ban graduation ceremonies to exit classes and also ban learners from getting or using mobile phones during school hours, except when dem specifically dey authorised for educational purposes.
Na the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Mrs. Margaret Adamu nia announce the measures wen she dey yarn wit news people for Makurdi on Monday as she dey welcome learners back to school.
She say schools must use only approved main textbooks with the warning say schools must not add the cost of books join the school fees, and dis one so mean say parents dey free to buy approved textbooks from schools or other places.
Concerning extra lessons, Adamu say make no school force pupils or students to take part for lessons outside regular school hours.
According to her, any Parent-Teacher Association wen dey wish to organise extra lessons must get approval from the Ministry of Education, while participation must remain voluntary.
