INEC Don Arrange Joint Team To Track Illegal Campaign Spending

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) don arrange one joint financial monitoring mechanism with anti-graft and financial intelligence agencies to track illegal campaign spending and vote-buying ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, yarn this one Monday for Abuja when he dey deliver one keynote address for one strategic workshop for media executives wen the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) collabo with the commission organize.

Amupitan say the commission dey work with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to monitor campaign financing and identify suspicious spending.

He say the joint mechanism go track illegal campaign expenditure, while dem go senior up for their surveillance around polling units to detect attempts to buy voters with cash or other material benefits.

The INEC chairman come warn political parties, candidates and their agents say violations of the Electoral Act 2026 go attract arrest and prosecution.
