NLC Don Declare Indefinite Strike For FCT Because of Teachers’ Issues

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, don declare indefinite strike for across the territory, with the directive wen dem give workers for both the public and private sectors to withdraw their services from Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

The decision show after wetin the union describe as the failure of the FCT Administration (FCTA) to satisfactorily address longstanding issues wen dey affect teachers for the territory, including promotion, career stagnation and the redeployment of school directors.

The Council say dem decide to fire down with the strike after d seven-day ultimatum wen dem give the FCTA on September 8, 2026 becos of unsettled labour issues wen dey affect FCT teachers don expire.

Among their demands, the NLC dey ask the FCTA to remove the vacancy condition for the promotion of FCT teachers and reconsider teachers when dey qualified for 2025 so dat them go fit sit for the promotion examination alongside the 2026 candidates.

The union come still demand for the withdrawal of redeployment and demotion letters wen dem give directors when be beneficiaries of the Harmonised Retirement Age for Teachers Act, 2022
